Default Sportster rider completed Iron Butt 100CCC

One of my friends has just completed the Iron Butt 100CCC event on his 2006 Harley Sportster. The 100CCC is a 4700 mile Coast to Coast to Coast ride (Jacksonville FL to San Diego CA and back to Jacksonville) in 100 hours or less. He made it in about 96 hours. Think about it: 4700 miles in four days. That's an average of 1175 miles per day. On a SPORTSTER. There are very few riders who would attempt this ride. Even fewer have completed it successfully and as far as we know they have all been riding Gold Wings, very fast Japanese Sport-touring bikes, and some BMW's. We're trying to find out, but we're pretty sure this is the first time the 100CCC has been completed by a rider on a Sportster. And oh, yeah, that Sportster had over 100,000 miles on it before Chris left on his trip. We have known for a long time that a properly set up Sportster can be a great distance motorcycle; this just helps to prove it.

Thumbs up

That is brilliant news and should end all such debate! A great ride, even taking it at a more leisurely pace. Hopefully he will write up a report on his experience, with photos, which you can link to? Or get him to join HDF - twist his arm for us!

I'm not buying it. Everyone knows Sportsters are for girls, aren't comfortable enough for an hour, much less four days, and Sportster engines grenade at 15,000 miles!

All kidding aside, that's an impressive feat, and goes to show that Sportsters are very competent bikes!

My hats off to him, I've done 4 iron butt burner 1000 mile rides in 24hrs and the Border to Border run and they've been on my dresser and my Softail. An ironbutt ride on a Sportster is just plain HARDCORE!
