Default Looking for Tank Change Advice

I have a 2005 1200XL Custom Sportster, and want to change the tank from the teardrop shape to the peanut shape. My only problem so far is that I do not want to lose the 4ish gallon capacity. Is there a tank out there that you would recommend that gives me the tall peanut shape, and also gives me the gas capacity I would like?

Take a look at J&P and other aftermarket suppliers. You will probably only get that large a 'peanut' as an aftermarket one.

Also, make sure you do not have a petcock problem. Bought a brand new tank from HD and they changed the petcock location. It's only a little bit off, but it was enough that the petcock hit the top of the head. I had to buy a brand new petcock.

I wouldn't buy a tank through J&P Cycles again. I've bought two over the past 12 yrs from them. Everytime I've had to go through several sending back for another to get something half decent to work with. They come with rust inside, dents & the mounts don't always line up. I've seen some like you want on line. I think Pagaucho has a larger King peanut style for pre FI bikes. Good hunting!
