Sportster clutch slip/Jerk
I know this has been ask before but not many that have a real definitive conclusion.I have a 2000 883 with 22K and just recently It has started to act like it slips out of gear and immediately jumps back in again.I have readjusted the clutch mechanism and the cable as well as drained and refilled the case to 32 oz of 75-90 gear oil.
Any new help out there. Maybe someone who has found the cure. I would really like to know what I am fixing before I tear it apart. Thanks in advance.

You probably have the dreaded brass rivet syndrome. there are brass rivets holding the stock clutch pack together, you are at the point they are failing , take a look at this thread My bike , https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...ts-batman.html many other posts about this failure here do a search for brass rivet .

75-90 gear oil is too heavy and it sounds like the clutch plates are sticking. 75-90 or 75-140 is fine in a 6 speed big twin, not a Sportster. I'm running Mobil 1 20-50 Air Cooled MC oil in my Street Bob oil tank and in the Wife's 1200, both motor and tranny/primary. Might want to check the clutch plates to see if they are warped. How is it after it's up to full temp?

The release and engage were pretty much in the center of the lever travel. I have had Mobile one 75-90 in the case since I bought it. Are you all telling me I need to tear into it and just replace the clutch or can it be rebuilt? How much is an energy one? Anything else in there falling apart? I have read some about dogs falling apart too? Is there a how to sticky anywhere for this operation? Looks like I have some work to do! Help me not to miss anything While I'm in there.

Is the clutch disengaging around half pull on lever? With the miles and known issues you may just want to change the clutch to am energy one or something similar to your liking. Otherwise I will happily sell you my stock clutch with 6k on it for $25+ shipping. Also when refilling primary you should only fill right at bottom of diaphragm spring. No more no less. Be that 28 oz or whatever that extra little can cause little problems. Do you have trouble finding neutral?
I may be interested in that clutch. Why did you remove it?

I have 97 sportster with close to 20,000 miles on it, and I'm also experiencing a jerk. It only happens in first gear below about 15 mph. In other gears, at low speeds for the particular gear, the motor lugs but there's no jerk. Should I plan on replacing the clutch soon also or is this a different issue? Also, I don't mean to highjack this thread, but I thought it might be appropriate here.

He didn't take the clutch out because it was bad, only because he wanted the upgraded Energy One clutch. I got 22K out of my current clutch so subtracting the 6K from his I could possibly run another 16K for a $25 investment.I don't really have $200+ right now and I don't want to keep running what I have so it seemed like a reasonable choice.
