Default 00 883 starting problems

bought bike used for son beginning of winter and it had a problem. This year after fresh gas and battery charging bike started right up and ran real nice. Took it around the block a couple times, parked, shut it off. A few minutes later it wouldn't start. In fact was backfiring. Few minutes and it starts and runs and idles fine. Shut it off, backfiring again while restarting. Carb, petcock, and gas is fine. Seems like intermittent spark of the timing goes off. Have checked spark with wire off and it comes and goes. Module? VOC? Ignition? Any ideas?

if the carb is fine, then early spark or dead battery

What was the problem you had before you put it away?

How did you winterize it? A full tank of fresh, non-ethanol gas? Stabilizer in the gas and run through the carb? Petcock off?

If not, it is likely a gummed up carburetor trying to deal with phase-separated old ethanol fuel. Drain the tank, put in premium non-ethanol fuel, add some Seafoam or Techron and see if that helps.

Good luck!

Sounds like the Coil pack.

When the bike is running, check for a voltage above 12.6+. Also check the connections. If the spark goes off and on while pushing the start button than it might be the coil pack. Not a bad place to check. I bet with a multimeter and a manual you will be able to find the problem.
