Default forward controls to mid on 09 1200

I am looking to change from forward controls to mid controls on my 1200c. I am curious if this would require any other special steps or kits in doing this. Has anyone done this before and had problems with it? Any info would be appreciated.

I went the other way, from mid to forward all I needed to do was purchase the kit. As I recall the Forward Kit was around $400 to $500. You'll need both the rear brake and gear shifter parts. A friend heped me and it was a pretty straight forward job. Check the online motorcycle parts mail order companies for availability and prices.

Check the Sportster Classifieds Section, here on the forum. They come up somewhat frequently. I wouldn't pay more than 50 or 60 bucks for a set of mids, shipped. Some are polished, and some are black, depending on which model they're taken from. 2004 to 2013 are a direct bolt-on affair. The biggest drag is getting the torx fastener out of the brake linkage. Loosen your muffler to make room. Put a towel around the foot levers as you loosen components so they don't slam into anything (Doh!). You'll want some cir-clip pliers, too. No big deal.

Sorry but not at the moment, I am also looking into the doing the reduced reach kit and keeping the forwards. If I decide to I will let you know.

No need to loosen the exhaust...just use a dog bone/ritchie ratchet and an torxbit and you can get to the torx bolt.

And for the front just use a ratchet and a torx adapter.
