Loud pipes: waking the neighbors?
#153
Well that's one way to revive an old thread.
I guess I'll keep it on topic. When people mention my noise, I tell them that I apologize that my exhaust system isn't as long as their cars. Or I tell them that motorcycles aren't as advanced technologically as cars. Or I just tell them that they came on the bike when I bought it, which they did.... If they persist I could always just start talking louder and louder (I come from a very loud family) You think my pipes are loud? Wait until you hear how loud my voice can get!

I don't under stand why some people want to make their bikes so loud. It just make so many hate bikes and we have enough of them already. And the big one. You are probably destroying your hearing every time you ride it. Later in life when you have constant ringing in your ears you will wish you never had put loud pipes on your bike. And yes I have ringing in both of my ears 24/7. It sounds like a dial tone on a telephone. No its not from loud mufflers, its from being in Vietnam as a combat solder. But still caused by loud noises. So do what you want now but you will hate it later.

I have been on both ends of the loud pipes debate. But, I try to be courteous. If its early or late, I'll coast and be nice. I'm not a fan of living in-town, but I do.
I will say this. Riding a bike with loud pipes and mowing your lawn with your sidearm on, does have its advantages. My neighbors all wave, and I wave back, but I have never talked to them, in my book, that's as good as it gets.

I did read the whole thread. Motorcycles are not except from the epa noise level of 80 dba. yes you are allowed to change from your factory exhaust but you are still not legally allowed to be over the 80 dba EPA mandate.
Do some actually research instead of just going by what you read on here.
I could give two ****s about loud exhaust. Im about to take my baffles out of mine. But I'm not gonna come on here and cry like a bitch if I start getting tickets for it. Everybody knows that there are laws. If you choose to break them than own up to it like a man if the police come after you. Just because everybody else is getting away with doesnt mean its legal.
If the LL hated bikes he would have already kicked out the op's friend.
Maybe he just hates sportsters.
Here's a easy link for you to read and maybe educate yourself.
