Banjo bolt question

Banjo bolt question
So I picked up a brake line for my new bars and the line was advertised as being for Sportsters. Turns out, its for Softails, which means one banjo fitting is 10mm and the other 12mm. The Harley shop I bought it from says that it'll still work as long as the bolt is centered. I see that a few companies make adaptor banjo bolts or adaptor washers specifically designed to mate a 12mm fitting to a 10mm bolt.
I got a good price on the line, and even with the cost of an adaptor, it will still be less than a new line.
So really, I am curious about whether or not I need an adaptor or not.

It's your brake system, the most important safety feature on your entire motorcycle, besides that gelatin between your ears.
You can't exchange it, especially if it was advertised incorrectly? That seems unusual.
Is "as long as it's centered" worth your life? I think buying the adaptor would buy you peace of mind as well, but's that's my opinion.

Trust me, I was not going with the "centered" idea. I ordered an adapter from Joker Machine. I can't say enough about their customer service. The shipping option was $6.95, which was precisely how much the part cost. I emailed them and they agreed to throw it in an envelope and shipped it free.
