Wide fat tire on 07 Nightster
I have read several posts on this site about converting your front tire to a wider one leaving off the fender and pretty much have it bad *** looking. I am a little lost though with everyone saying get this or that do this or that.
What is the biggest tire I can put on the stock front with no fender? Conversion how?
What is the biggest tire I can put on a modified front with no fender? Conversion how?
Again, I have read almost every thread on this type of mod but I am still fairly lost. I pretty much want my back tire and front tire to look about the same fatness (is this even a word?)
Thanks in advance,
Trevor

I've got a 150/80x16" on the front of mine, same size as the stock Nightster rear. I bought the Wide Glide kit from Vulcan/Motorway Engineering, bought a used 16"x3" wheel off ebay and an Avon Venom front tire. With some machine shop modifications I managed to make it all work. The "kit" from Vulcan was not plug-and-play. I had to modify the second wrong axle they sent me on a lathe and make my own spacers. Other than that, the installation was pretty straightforward. Be warned - others on this forum have had similar or worse experience with Vulcan and their customer service is not the best.
One of the members here on the forum (mreed) fit a 130x16 tire on the front of one of his Narrow Glide Sportsters by slightly shaving the forks to allow the tire to clear. You'll have to do a search to find the thread describing it. If a 130 tire isn't wide enough you'll have to change your Narrow Glide front end to the Wide Glide set up.

Trevor, you're limited by two things: 1 your current rim size; 2 the gap between your sliders. There is a limited range of suitable tyres available for 19" rims, none of which will is very wide, which means something has to give.
If you have stock wire-spoked wheels the simplest thing to do would be to get your front wheel rebuilt with a rear rim. You will probably also need new spokes. That will get around the problem Ergo mentions, as your wheel will fit right back in with no spacer problems. Which leaves us with what size tyre! You can measure your rear tyre: if it is narrower than the gap between your sliders with a decent margin you have your answer. Simples!
