Will keep the sporty until I die but,

I Will get Dyna super glide and a cbr1000rr.

Searching for dyna now, no rush.

CBR is inbound. Trying to find one with abs for 6-7k. Why? ... I'm tired of feeding my sportster $13 bottles of oil, chasing & tracing leaks, and searching for the meaning of the new sounds that randomly add themselves to the orchestra of my engine. I imagine that the dyna will only be worse but... I'm gonna do it anyway because I'm stupid.

.
.......lets see if it disappears again

Dyna wide glide with rinehart crossover exhausts. Definitely the next bike once I run the crap out of my sporty in the next year or so.

Like you I really do dig the older bikes, but they're so damn expensive! 'Matter of fact I was just watching a video earlier this evening that had a picture of HD's tiny original shop and some pics of chicks riding the early Harleys all donned in leather helmets, scarfs, and smoking cigarettes. 'See? From nearly the beginning, Harleys were girls bikes!!

=8^)
the smart thing to do

Being an old scrambles racer, I'd like a dual-purpose bike as my 4th bike (have 3 now). Too old for full-out racing, but itching to get off road for some adventure riding. A DRZ-400 SM or KLR-650 is what I'm on the prowl for to add to my stable, and to reopen the off-road fun and opportunities it affords.

Something electric for grocery getting would be my second choice. Or a breakout.

Got a second bike a couple months ago, a '70 Harley (Aermacchi) Sprint 350SS. Have a little work to do & then it should be a fun secondary rider. Had all the sport bikes in the past, none really excite me much any more except maybe a '92ish GSXR 7/11 but nice examples are far & few between.

You sound a lot like me. I caught the adventure bug about a year ago. I really want to give the TAT a try. I also think the KLR, even with its issues, is the best all around compromise bike.

As far as a second bike after the sporty? It was another sporty.

I also like the older bikes. Couldnt pass up this 77 KZ650. Good power (60HP), and corners better than anything I have.

Came across a 75 ironhead on facebook for $2K, couldnt pass that up either

Then of course theres everyones around me learner bike we affectionately call Nurple.

But, thats just too many bikes and aside from the 48 and the KZ they really dont do it for me. So Im selling the blue 08 sporty, the ironhead and Nurple. But that still leaves me with my adventure bug. On top of that I really want to be able to take my dog with me. To scratch both those itches I think my next one will be a Ural. Its capable of backroads, offroad/trail touring AND I can take my dog with me

Yup - after my Glide and Buell.

I started riding in the 60s so have owned or ridden most of the bikes I like from that era. There is only one that I would dearly love to own, a Munch Mammut from the early 70s. Please?!
