Default Primary/Trans and Engine Oil

I'm slowly working my way through the 5000mile (8000km) service one task at a time and I just changed the engine oil/filter last weekend.

Want to do the primary/trans this weekend, but have some questions.

-Is the primary and trans separate? Want to make sure I get all the right stuff before getting underway

-the bike now has a little over 13000km on it now and i was thinking of switching to all 100% synthetic fluids - Motul fluids come highly recommended from a guy who owns 6+ race bikes and multiple street bikes.

-if i did want to switch to synthetic now, would it be foolish to do an oil change again, and put in the synthetic engine an primary/trans oil all at the same time?

just throwing this out there.. always get good feedback. this place rocks

I just changed mine and put motul 7100 20w50 synthetic in the engine and hd formula + in the primary/transmission, the motul is great stuff and I chose the hd formula + as reafing the reviews it seems the best choice for the primary and not synthetic.

The trans/primary only uses 1 qt of oil to change it. I bought a qt. of Harley D. 20w 50 synthetic oil and changed it a few days ago. I can feel a slight improvement in shifting now...

I use Shell Rotella 15w 40 in the motor as that's what I use in all of my equipment around here...it's very good oil.

No need for 2 different types of synthetic when using HD branded oil. The engine, trans and primary use the same oil. Once you put in synthetic there is no going back.

No going back after going to synthtic?
False info!
You can go back to dino anytime you want.

Harley has the Formula+ for the tranny/primary (they share).
Only take a quart. $8.95

Engine oil (20W50) for the engine.
Never could figure out why people travel all over town to "save" on oil after spending thousands on their pride and joy. It's the life blood of the bike.

When buying supplies, buy enough for an extra fluid change, including an extra filter. It isn't a dairy product.

A little help here guys!

I have 3 quarts of Amsoil 20w50 synthetic motorcycle oil. I am running low on oil and thinking about doing an early 5000 mile service on my bike. Can I use this oil in all 3 holes? Or do I need to buy something else for primary/tranny?

as others have pointed out, the last sentence has no factual basis.

i'm wondering the same thing, as I just purchased extra oil for doing my engine oil change last weekend - it's not synthetic, but I need to change the primary/trans now and wondering if I can use what I have left over.. a Liter of the HD 20W50 oil?

After reading a bunch and talking to my teacher about the Motul fluids, I will def be switching everything over to their 100% Synthetic line for the future. If i can use my already bought HD 20w50 dino oil in the primary/trans, then I will wait until the next 8000km service. If not, I will think about switching everything over sooner.

Do i need to run anything through before/after starting with Synthetics to clean the system out?
