Oil leak from rocker
To make a long story short.. I was looking for a 883 Sportster that needed work so I can bump it up to a 1200 add better cams blah blah blah.. I wanted a Sportster but I also wanted HP.. I ended up getting a real sweet deal on a buell.. It had some mileage but the guy took good care of it.. So I figured hey why not do this in reverse? Start with a power plant that's around 100HP already and ride it for a year or so wail I look for a blown up 883..
So the guy told me he just had the seals and gaskets replaced a few months ago and I believe him.. They looked brand new and didn't feel crusty buy when they installed the front middle gasket (the brown one) they pinched it in two places.. I replaced it today took her for a test ride and guess what? She still leaks! Looks like the same gasket only now more on the side than front. Am I missing something? This is an easy job.. I've done just about everything to my bikes over the past 30 years and this thing is screwing with me..lol
Ok, Here's what I did> I didn't use any ATV or anything.. When I bolted it down I basically did it like a head only at around 14/16 in/lbs. I did use thread lock (blue) and was very careful putting the plates back on during assembly. I also took the cheap/easy way out.. I only bought the 3 top seals and umbrella.
I can see the oil is coming from the middle section.
My plan was to do new base and head gasket, valve seals and re-seat the valves this winter.. The bike has about 35k on it now so I figure it's time.
The bike is a 00 Buell X1 lightning.. It's basically an 93-03 1200
Thanks
