Canadian Iron Fender Chop

Canadian Iron Fender Chop
Hey guys, I can't seem to find what Im looking for with the search function.
Has anyone done a fender chop on a Canadian Iron 883? Im going to move the rear break light to the left side, probably just buy a brake light/license plate combo. Talked to a local shop and they wanted $1500 to do it so I said F!@$ that.
I just have no idea where to chop it and how hard it will be to do the wiring and what not.
I just bought some burly brand 10.5 rear shocks and a motorcycle lift and figured I'd do everything while the bike is on the lift.
Can anyone help a brother out with advice or maybe you know of a thread someone has done on this before?
Thanks in advance!

No experience with a Canadian model fender, but the brake/tail wiring is really easy. Just splice in and you're good to go.
Get some masking tape and put it on your fender in different lines/shapes to figure out how you want your fender to flow, then go to work with a cutting wheel.
Can't say enough good things about the No School choppers 33 murdered out plate mount/light combo if you're looking for one.
You may even be able to find a US spec fender on eBay or something.

I also have a "canadian iron". It bugs me that the license plate is sticking way up above the brake light. I want to move it to the side, but is that illegal? I was expecting an HD side mount to come with it but no such luck.

I'm in Winnipeg so that would be a trek haha. Ya I'm sure putting the plate and the rake light on the left is probably illegal here but so will the amount I want off the fender so I figure what the heck.
Normally people just chop off the side that gets hidden under the seat but because of the stupid canadian brake light I do not have that luxury.

I did exactly what you are thinking of doing. Harley sells a module that converts your turn signal into running/brake/turn signals. I chopped from the back too to take off that hole and repainted. On the edge I put some black car door trim that I bought at a auto parts store. Hope this helps.

Im diggin that shock mounted murdered out brake light/ plate kit. Looks sick and I like that the light is DOT approved should any law enforcement ask haha. Thanks for the heads up on that. Will be putting in an order for one of those for sure. Where have you guys been running the wires from the old break light? Just under the fender and up through the swing arm/ rear shocks?
The car trim on the back to cover any paint mistakes is a golden idea too. I have a 2013 Candy Orange sportster so it makes it harder for me to cover up and paint mistakes.
Bike is slowly coming along though, will try to take some pics when Im done and post them here. Still nervous about chopping the fender but I have my holidays coming up and this seems like a good project for one or two days. Will have to go buy a touch up pen or something.
