Default Storing your bike in your apartment

What is your feelings on storing a bike in your apartment? My bike is in San Diego in my parents garage at this time while I work up north, but i'd really like to have my bike with me and not outside. Any opinions would help, and tips on laws in CA applying to it?

I do have to add I live in Merced, Ca. I'm new to this area, and have had my lights broken on my patio and my car tires aired out. So keep that in mind.

If I could get it in the door thats where I would keep it... Right in the center of the living room... a conversation piece...

The landlord my not appreciate it though... but hey, perhaps he rides a Harley

Sounds like you need to rent a storage unit close to you. Storing the bike in your apartment will get you evicted if the landlord finds out. Their insurance company would have rules against the bike being inside.

I was thinking that too. What's the difference between living room and a garage connected to the house? Ventilation?

If vehicles were meant for indoor/home storage, you'd have a front "garage" door vs. normal entry. In short...too many hazards that won't end well, if something goes awry.

Garages usually have a fire rated wall between the living space and the garage (if they are connected). That is why you will see gypsum board (sheet rock) on the walls in the garage, even they never got painted.

Man, I live about 50 miles south of Merced, so I'm very familiar with it. It used to be a nice town. But it's been severely economically depressed and has become a high unemployment/high crime town.

Interestingly, the residents chased off a group attempting to build a multimillion dollar motorsports park there that would have brought jobs and money into the area. Didn't want the traffic, or the "element" a race track would bring. I reckon they like meth labs better. Who'da thunk?

You could do a don't ask/don't tell type of thing…or move. I'm certain there are a lot worse things going on in Merced apartments than a guy keeping his bike indoors.

A better hood might be the ticket, say Turlock or Modesto.
