Default Forward Controls Longer Shift Rod Question

I have an 03 883 Anniversary that I have a problem with the forward controls shift peg. It is too close to the foot peg making it difficult to get my boot under easily. It looks like the are not much threads left on the stock rod so I am thinking that I need to replace the rod with a longer one. Can anyone tell me if I can use one off of another HD model that will give me the added length or if if not, where can I go to find what I need?

Any help would be appreciated.

John

Some vendors have longer shift & brake levers, but what kind of boots are you wearing or, better yet, are your Sasquatch (big footed)?

I wear a size 10 boot but they are high (thick) in the toe area which I believe is driving the need to adjust the shifter. I switch between a pair of HD boots and a pair of well worn Herman Survivor boots.

The rod is for fine adjustments, the shifter arm onto the shifter shaft is for major adjustments.

Take the shifter off the splined shaft coming out of the primary cover by removing the pinch bolt and rotate it one notch in the needed direction. Then adjust the rod as needed. The shifter arm might be a bit of a pain to get off the splined shaft, take your time and pull it off straight.

Removing the pinch bolt is key to removing the shifter arm. Just loosening it won't allow you to pull the arm off.
