Punched holes in my exhaust

Punched holes in my exhaust
After hearing about it and watching a few videos about it, I decided to go ahead an punch holes in my stock exhaust pipes.
Most of the videos all mention going and buying long 1/2"-3/4" drill bits. Me? I had a 12" nail(a few of them actually) and a hammer. Centered the nail in the baffle and pounded away with the hammer until she poke through.
Took 10 seconds for each muffler baffle and now she sounds a bit deeper and a tiny bit louder.

Ok, so I tried to open up the baffles a bit more. I took my trusty nail and hammered away a bit more. Only to discover that all the misshapen holes were causing a certain 'clicking' sound in my ears while riding. Not good. It was 'raspy' and awful sounding.
So...off came the mufflers and in to see my welder. He cut a few bolt head slugs and welded them back into the depth of the baffle to seal up my stupid mistake.
Now it's back to 'normal' or should I say, 'factory sounding.'
Normal is a nice set of aftermarket pipes. That's where the money will go next.

Ran them for about 500 miles, and they really improved throttle response. Still had some popping with Vance & Hines Slip ons, so went with a tuner. Had some popping even with the tuner and had to try a few maps to fix the problem.
With stock pipes and Screaming Eagle air cleaner, the VIEDs really worked.
Also had VIEDs on my 2007 Custom 883 with Screaming Eagle slip ons and Arlen Ness big sucker.Made a huge difference in performance.

I have a set of Vance and Hines Straightshots and S.E. aircleaner. Great sound and an increase in power. If you change to aftermarket pipes, you should also change out your aircleaner to allow greater airflow in for more efficient combustion.
