07' Sportster Petcock leak
Hows it going fellow riders,
I bought my 07 Sportster a few months ago with right under 100 miles on it. Guy bought it for his wife, she didn't ride it, you know the rest. Long story short, I have a gas leak right at the petcock. I went to the dealer and talked to them about it and was told it was probably the O-ring which they don't have on any of their diagrams nor show it as existing at all. To replace the entire thing is $120. I was told to go pick up an o-ring and do it myself. So, I bought a variety pack and some thread sealer (as an extra precaution) was ready to go. First off, I can't tell where the o-ring is supposed to go. All the video's I watch has a gas flow switch right under to which mine doesn't have. Next, I unscrewed the petcock to find that when you get so far, it keeps spinning but doesn't unscrew anymore. I also cannot pull it out from there. Any idea's on what I am doing wrong and where to place the o-ring?

Finally got it all figured out.
I have learned a lot in the past couple days. So petcocks are only on carbureted motorcycles. With the 2007 Sportster being an EFI, there obviously is no petcock. In its place is a quick disconnect fuel line coupling. If you look at my previous post with the picture, up inside the disconnect (chrome cylinder) there is an o-ring that you need a hooked tool to get out. I bought a pack of O-rings at the auto parts store and matched it accordingly. I now have no leak. Thanks for your help!

no bueno!
i'd run that by the dealer and play "stupid". go in asking for a new gasket and act like you don't understand what to do and lure the parts folks out to your bike. they'll freak out and get a service dude to look at it and you'll get an off the cuff,"oh just do [x] or [y]" out of him.
done
try pushing up on the coupler while pulling down on the black fuel line to pull them apart. there will be a little gas mess but no biggie it should stop in a few seconds. inspect the connection points. the oring in there may be shot. could just be loose... but if all else fails, play stupid.
