The Dark Side For those members running "Car Tires" on their scoots. This is for their discussion only and not a place for "non dark siders" to mouth off about their negative opinions of this idea!

Has anyone had a bad experience after going to the Darkside, or decided that they preferred the "Lightside" for whatever reason?

Default Darkside negatives

I've had a C/T on the bike I'm riding now for a little over 90k miles. The one before that racked up about 40K with a C/T.

I don't see going back to a M/T.

Car tires aren't perfect though. Riding slowly on uneven surfaces can get your attention. To me, the benefits outweigh the negatives.

I asked my indy the other day if he'd change out a ct on my bike when the time came and he said absolutely not! I asked him why, even with a signed release? and he said no, he just didn't believe a ct should go on a bike. No good reason, it was "just because". People are funny that way. Did you guys know that the earth is round by the way?

Thanks for the replies. There are volumes of positive experiences on this forum, but I've seen only theoretical reasons why you shouldn't use a CT. I figure that someone, somewhere at sometime has had a less than positive experience.

I'm sure that's probably right but the same could be said of just about anything don't ya think?

Stolen from post #2 and it is the only drawback I have ever noticed.

"Riding slowly on uneven surfaces can get your attention."

Another drawback is that a car tire will try very hard to follow the crown of the road. So if you are on a reverse banked curve it can be an interesting experience.

Not really dangerous, just disconcerting.....

on some other bikes, I hear about people getting a wobble that they can't resolve, then put a MC on and have no issues. Usually with very narrow rims. If riding a CT made me uncomfortable, then yeah, I go back, but hasn't yet and don't see it ever being a concern.

I've had 2 CT's on my SG now... I'll never go back. Yes, slow rides, pulling into driveways, awkward dirt roads, can take a little getting used to. But coming from dirtbikes and all things two wheels that I shouldnt be, it's not enough to stop me, or too diificult to figure out. DARKSIDE FOR LIFE! At least for my touring bikes.
