So it's not the tire that's is causing the problem, it's the pulley itself riding to far inboard? That sounds like a question for an engine expert.
It could be the precursor of a problem.....

in your original post you said you're only running 30 psi... most of us with 205/55 16 are at 38 psi or higher ... i started at 40 psi and work down to 38 psi ... less air pressure allows the side to squat down ( read bulge )... it takes awhile for the side wall to break in.. also it's damn cold up there right now... try setting to 40 psi and insure the tire is aligned properly ... hope this helps
