I ride a 2005 softail standard efi, this year I put straight shot pipes on and a K&N cone style air filter. After much reading and some advise from a trusted mechanic, as well as this site, I chose to go with a cobre prower pro black tuner. My understanding is this is an auto tuner and will adjust air fuel mix on the fly. The bike runs well overall at speed, however, it occasionally backfires on deceleration, and start up. It also coughs when the engine is cold, and when downshifting with a quick throttle twist to up the engine RPM it also will seem to miss. Keep in mind I'm a techno moron, old guy. Thinking about trying the downloadable app to tweek the tune. Any thoughts.

The tuner doesn't automatically change your bike for the best possible riding experience from the get-go once that you've plugged it in. It takes into consideration your riding style after a few jaunts around the city or countryside. You have to give it a little time for it to learn how you like to ride before it will set the tune.

I was initially. told it would take 50 miles to adjust, I thought it might take more. So far I've put on about 150 miles. I'm okay with being patient for a bit longer.

Mine ran fine as with open SE filter and loud Python for the first 30K till I got tired of the racket. It has close to 50K now with the last year of the Nightrain TC96 OEM take off pipes. Still has factor compression and runs like new.
If you want it to go fast open the throttle. All that silly extra fuel just washes the cylinders unless it's right. The backfires on deceleration is probably just the pipes. Mine did that. Mine will even pop when starting depending on were the cylinder stopped. Think that is normal.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe my expectations were to high for the product. Overall the bike seems to have a bit more power, and at x-way speed I can feel it when I crank the throttle.
