One of the reasons the auto, truck and other bike mfrs are using torque based engine control already..

One simple change in a torque request can and does effect mixture, spark and other things all at one time. The ability to build a torque model of the engine itself would have to be done for each and every engine combination for starter. With out the necessary tools and written instructions on how to work with it all, people will be lost. To get a product done and to market has to come first. Afterwards, I may sit down and start working on something more but there is just not the time right now for it all. Just look around and tell me who out there is even putting out instructions and manuals now of how things work and I think most of you will understand why I've made this decision.
Steve, do you know if HD have (or will have) Torque maps for their own cam and or power package upgrades, or will they be reverting back to VE maps to cover such upgrades?

and by the way, current tuning is already a bit more black art than some of the tuners would have us believe what with poor sampling of VE on street tuning, what to do with CDE and IVC, and working out what timing table works best

...maybe all of this is going to get proper tuning back in pro shops with dynos rather than this semi mythical idea that anyone can do it, which I don't think would be a bad move personally

Well another day testing/tuning on bikes. Things are going well and so far so good. Have got 1 tester we are working with along with ourselves so if things keep going well we will have a selection of tunes with the first release for the 107 engine and maybe a few 114 to follow shortly after. I will post some of the dyno runs from both us and our tester in the days to come. This attachment will show you whats current in the tuning software today for the M8 engine family.

So looking at the timing table.. At 100 MAP the timing is 34 deg in the upper RPM range?

Attached is the first dyno sheet from our tester. It shows 2 stock bikes on there dyno. The 107 and the 114 bike. This will serve as the baseline runs for the tuning and parts changes we are working on together. Things are going to start being fun as we work our way through the various parts and tuning on the 107 first then on to the 114.

Does the 114 and the 107 have the same cam? Interesting how the dynos are nearly identical other than the higher performance of the larger displacement.

Very interesting. I see an "epa finger" involved in the decision to use the same cam in both the 107 and 114. My guess is ALOT of power was left in the engine that can be brought back to life once new cams are designed and tested.

HD has three cams to offer, all EPA compliant when installed as part of a kit and used with the street tuner. Aftermarket guys have two new designs ready for testing, possible a whole lot more. Looks like the tuner's almost ready. Will be exciting to see what transpires
