Default Locking to ECM

Have a TTS question...

As we all know, many tuner modules, such as the SEPST, will store the bike's VIN when it is first connected, and from that point on that module is "married" to that bike. You can't use that module on any other bike, but you can certainly still use any tuner you want on that bike, if you change your mind.

A professional tuner I know told me that using the TTS is the reverse of that: If you use a TTS module on a bike, the TTS module inserts code changes in the ECM, and you can never use any other tuner on that bike. The ECM is now "TTS Only". If you want to change to any other tuner, you will need to replace the ECM and security fobs.

Can anyone verify this?

It was definitely the first I've ever heard of it. Doesn't really sound believable, but the guy that told me is no shade tree mechanic.

Really is a moot argument. TTS locks the ECM so only a TTS can modify the files.

Anyway, it is best practice to take the ECM back to stock before using a different flash tuning device.

So what I was told is indeed correct? You can no longer "modify" the tune unless you use a TTS?

No, you said you was told you would have to get a new ECM and Security Fobs... That's not true at all.

So, once you've used the TTS, how do you change to a different tuner, when only a TTS can "modify" the files?

Edit: or if you go to a SE tuner, are you simply starting over?

The stock calibration is stored in the TTS dongle if it is BLUE. BLACK stock calibration is held on your computer files.

Open MasterTune and select to reinstall the Factory Calibration. Once that is done you may do what you want with any device.

Yes, you must start your tune all over again.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks!

One more time on this, as there are many many stories out there, mostly from internet selling people that want to sell you something different!

ALL ECM's are locked to begin with, this is nothing new. TTS changes the locks in the ECM just as you would the lock on the door on your home. When you want to allow someone in, you unlock the door to your home and you do the same with the TTS. When you first use the unit, it stores a mirror image of the entire ECM in the unit and on the PC that it is hooked up too. You can reinstall that image anytime you like. Once you do that it is now again locked the same as Delphi had done it. Once the TTS program is installed the ECM is locked to keep anyone out unless you allow them get in to change it. Its just that simple.

The BS about replacing the ECM, Key fobs or any other crap is just that, crap.
