Default '08 Ultra build

Hi guys my 2008 Ultra has 108,000 miles on it and I decided that it was time for a top end rebuild. I bought TTS Mastertune (blue dongle) and I used it all summer with the stock setup. My heads and jugs are at VTR getting a Stage 1 port and polish with oversized valves and a 107" bore. I am using S&S 583 EzStart cams with S&S Powertune pipes and V&H Monster Ovals. I already have S&S Teardrop AC. I looked through the cal listing and I don't know which one to use. HELP PLEASE

Start with DAG205-004, set displacement to 110, and run camtune.

As has been said DAG205-04 would be my choice as well. Set the displacement up and start from there. You may also want to look at getting a larger Throttle body and Injectors since you are increasing the airflow of the cylinder heads and camshafts.

thanks for the replies, do you think that bigger throttle body is nice or necessary. I mostly do cruising type riding, you know, commuting and weekend rides 300 or 400 mi. Mostly solo. I know that I will have more airflow from the head work, but my OEM setup never went over 40% duty on the injectors, even when I got on it while V-tuning(nice product Steve). Along those same thoughts I wonder about my AC choice, do you think the S&S will provide enough air. Thanks again

I like the 58mm throttle body on my 103 but some people will say it's not worth the price. So you've got more displacement and high flow heads I know it would help. It all boils down to how much do you want to spend.

Well, the build is done. I put in the cal with the mods and it started up and sounded good.
I need to break it in. Should I use the cal I just installed as is or should I start Vtune while I am breaking it in?

Letting Vtune run as you break it in is not going to hurt anything and while it may only be making small corrections, every little bit helps.

Thanks Steve, I tried doing the cam estimator for the cam and the results were not good. Very rough idle, so I reset it to the original settings and will run camtune tomorrow. Using that data I will start V-tune. We still have snow and ice here in New England so I am just going to run the motor with a blower on it and keep the rpm's down until I ride it. I usually start riding in March.

That is not uncommon, Cam cards do not give you true valve opening or closing. The specification is taken @ 0.053" lobe lift on the camshaft for most HD camshafts. So that is 0.053 * 1.6x = ???? The problem is various cam cards use different rocker ratio's on a HD. Some say 1.65 while others say 1.63 and everywhere in between

0.053 * 1.65 = 0.087
0.053 * 1.64 = 0.087
0.053 * 1.63 = 0.086

In all cases that is already past when the valve opened and what the ECM needed to be setup for. Camtune will show you where it really is.

I ran camtune on the DAG-205-04 cal and got a "2" from the software. Modified the cal for Vtune and ran it with flight recorder. I am still breaking it in. So far I have 3 tuning runs in, total of 50 miles. I am seeing a lot of changes in EGR and the VE tables, I think that's what I want to see at this stage. Bike is running better every time I put a new cal in.
I am trusting this program to make the right changes and so far it is. Will keep you updated.
