Ride to Sturgis 2015
I will be staying in Orlando for three months starting July 8th and I'm planning on renting a bike and heading to Sturgis. I would appreciate your help in planning the ride:
1. Where do I rent a bike?
2. When do I leave to Sturgis?
3. How many miles a day?
4. Which cities are best to stop for the night in?
5. Best place to stay in or near Sturgis (I don't like camping).
6. Should I take the same route back or head south then take Route 66?
7. Anything interesting to see on the way and back?
If any of you guys are planning to ride to Sturgis and are willing to accept a fellow rider let me know what your plan is. I might join you.

If you don't like camping, then at this stage of the game, you'll find that you'll end up staying quite a way from Sturgis coz all hotels near are well booked.
We're staying in Casper, so that'll give you an idea!!
I'm cool on camping, but have the family with me and it's a non starter with them.
Best of luck searching.

1. Orlando Harley Davidson. But it is going to be expensive. (You probably already know that.)
2. Depends on 3. I went a couple of years ago and we covered about 600 miles a day and made it on the afternoon of the fourth day. But that was interstate riding all the way and a lot of seat time each day.
3. How many miles a day can you ride. I know some guys who have no problem with 600, 700, even 800 mile a day. Some guys can barely make 400 miles. Interstate or surface roads?
4. Since I was riding so far each day the cities did not matter. Where ever I stopped was it. I will say DO NOT stop in East St. Louis.
5. As said above, if you are not camping you will have to take what you can get at this stage. You may be able to find a room close, but it will be very expensive and probably not a great room. I camped just outside of Strugis at a campground called Elkview. Rolled in on Thursday with no reservation and no problem.
Good luck

We just booked two motel rooms in Deadwood a few weeks ago. Call around there will be cancellations right up to the start.
