Growing up, my mother always warned about NOT riding motorcycles...threatening to take an ax to any bike I may ever ride. She's come along way. I know she HATES that I ride, but she never says anything, and even wishes my "a good time" when she knows I'm riding. I know that cannot be easy for her.

Right on we all have family or friends who have ill effects over our riding,I just say don't knock it till you try it but understand it's not for everyone. My folks (older 80s) and live in Florida and I live in Michigan and every time we talk they tell me every day they read about another motorcycle death,I kinda understand there concern but Folks I've been riding 46 yrs with a couple minor incidents, they get it now.

There's old bikers and bold bikers. But no old, bold bikers.

Perhaps I'm delusional but I think rider training and the rider staying acutely alert to their surroundings go a long way to living to ride another day. I see bikers riding right next to cars in their blind spot...riding in the right lane where people are going to turn out in front of them...

I know I'm like a marketing machine for Ridelikeapro but I really enjoyed his video on defensive riding. I know all the points he raises in the video but I found it a very good refresher.

This probably sounds crazy but the reason I ride is because I get a rush from focusing my mind so sharply on what is going on around me. I used to race my car for the same reason. I like being that focused.

Yvonne, you might consider giving your mom a call or text when you're done riding. That'll ease her mind. And, it never is a bad idea to say hi to your mom!!

Oh Joe, I don't dare tell her when I'm actually riding. I imagine that would make it so much worse!

Not when...just that I do! And I'm guessing she always assumes I'm bad! But she does know about The Ocala Rally, so I guess I can call her then!
