@ Lauren, thought I'd throw that out there should you had been traveling that time frame. August in Arkansas is major heat. lol, you've been warned.
@ Joe, that tarp pic you posted is exactly how we rode back in the day. Sleepin bag rolled up around the tarp strapped to the sissy bar. I'm agin and my wife laffs at me when I tell gonna set the scoot up for campin, tells me just get a room old man.
I tell her, pfft, then it dawns on me, I do like my morning coffee to kick start my morning constitution...lmfao
I did get a helluva laff out that pic!

I'm glad you got a kick out of it buddy, I knew it would remind more than just me of our young stupid days.
Say there's a movie coming out on May 2 about 4 guys who ride choppers from coast to coast.... I'm looking forward to it. I cribbed the picture from the movie photographer's site. Sounds like my kind of movie, who among us hasn't dreamed of packing up and taking our scooter across the country..... I suppose everyone who saw Easy Rider thought about it at one time or another, hoping however it ends up better than it does for those guys...
Check it out:

Adventure Begins with Risk
21 DAYS UNDER THE SKY is an unconventional true story about those men who won't conform. Four guys meet in San Francisco to start a 3,800 mile ride down the Lincoln Highway – the oldest coast to coast route connecting the east to the west. They are riding vintage “choppers”; bikes prone to break down or run out of gas. Through the highs and lows of a long journey, this story examines the timeless American love affair with the motorcycle and an even greater American tradition: the road trip.
It's not a biker movie about crime, drugs, and women, though these are obvious byproducts of a life lived full. This is a side of motorcycle living that isn't often told. Their journey becomes less about getting anywhere and more about going back to where things started; about the vast heavenly landscapes, the proud people they encounter, and the small towns they rest in. It is a contemporary look at the American Dream, and the fearless few that have the guts to go without a plan. A reminder of what real adventure feels like.
Beautifully directed and filmed through the lens of famed motorcycle lifestyle photographer, Michael Schmidt, and written by poet and journalist Kate O'Connor Morris, this widescreen cinematic experience is the first of its kind, and is recognized as the seminal "chopper" film of this generation. Narrated by actor Robert Patrick, he delivers the deep ominous voice of the bikers internal thought, the words we wish we could attain to describe our feelings for what it's like to be on an old chopper; racing through deserts and forest roads, salt flats, and two lane blacktops, camping on rain-soaked grounds, and emerging grease-stained from underneath your broken-down bike on the side of a road. 21 DAYS UNDER THE SKY is the one time the words EPIC and ADVENTURE can actually be used without the normal trappings of how these terms are tossed about in social media.

TFB when I saw that picture I snagged it, knowing I'd find good use for it... I had my similar days as a younger man having camping fun... but I have say I camped during bike week this year and last and this old body has NO problem sleeping on the ground even today!!
I'm glad you got a kick out of it buddy, I knew it would remind more than just me of our young stupid days.

This year we are doing a 16 day trip and our furthers destination is Palm Springs CA. We are doing the sites of the Desert Southwest and we will be including camping in this trip as well.
Camping adds an element to the trip that is like no other. Our trip fir 2018 is the Pacific Coast Highway from Washington State down to California and the plan is to camp on the beach and other locations throughout the trip along with hotels as well. This is the trip I have been wanting to take for years!!!

I have taken touring vacations almost every year since 2004 and there is nothing like riding across country on your motorcycle. Last year a few of my riding buddies and I decided to add in the camping element mixed with hotel stays on our 19 day trip. Our northern most destination was Glacier National Park. We did 7400 miles in 19 days and camped 9 of those days. We camp three nights in Custer State Park in SD, 2 nights in Glacier National Park, 2 nights in Yellowstone NP, and 2 nights in Rocky Mountain NP. We rode through Bonneville Salt Flats on our way from Yellowstone to Rocky Mountain. It was a great trip.

p.s. I think you mean a 10 day trip? One day to Palm Springs is easy in a 737, not so much on a 103...lol
Did you do a daily trip log? I bet it would be great to go back and read from time to time.... and if you did a post it'd be great for all of us to follow along.
My newfound buddy NomadMax penned this up from last year's Bike Week Trip..he has another even better story about his trip to the Arctic Circle but I can't seem to find it.

@ Joe...bookmarked that link. Looks interesting. Gotta tell ya, the one thing I do miss is cross country and pulling over and tarpin my butt for a few 'Zss' and movin on once I wake. Loved the life when I was younger and miss it as I age. Been 20 years since I settled down/married life, I was a late bloomer dint marry til I was in my 40's.
Never know, brother, wake up one day and just do it again. Wife be all freaky on the cell everyday wondering where I am but good thing is the cell stays in the saddle bag til I need it...lol
I will make an effort to be in Sebring so we meet up, I look forward to that. Hell, even if it means iced tea kinda day...*laffs

That is OUTSTANDING! I'm not in a position with little kids to do that yet but I hope to do it before I'm too old.

I didn't do a daily log but did do daily Facebook check ins and posts. People love hearing and following along with the trips.
I should start doing more formal daily logs on my trips.

I'm looking forward to meeting you as well buddy. Maybe we can share a tea or a beer, I'd love for you to spin me a tale or two from your days on the road.

Don't let my business picture scare you off (or my ugly mug, I can't help that). I have a business pic as my non-biker clients might look me up so I have to show my CPA side, not my Harley or my Vette racing side publicly.

So I get that it is difficult to do having kids.

UK is one of my favorite people to ride with. It is not so trivial to ride with someone - some take too much time or need to stop too often, or go to fast or too slow or stick too tight or too far back or don't read the road and be ready to change lanes even if they are not leading... she is perfect in my book.
