A brief history of why the Crew Rally is moving location
Firstly apologies for the delay in announcing the Crew rally details this year.
Murph contacted the Days Inn in Silver Springs/Ocala back in June as usual. It turns out that this year in November there is a big football game in the area and the hotel was not interested in working with us regarding rates and guarantees of rooms. They would not block off our usual area and wanted to charge $100-120 plus. They really didn't care whether or not we came back. Many of the staff we used to deal with have left. All other hotels in the Ocala region were also planning to up their rates for that weekend. Since none of us live in that area it started to get quite difficult to find a hotel.
So we had to start from scratch, looking for a hotel that would accommodate us, that had a restaurant, bar, pool on site, that had a good parking area, that was reasonably priced and were happy to have a bunch of bikers and so on. After much research we found a hotel in Palatka that fit our needs. Slick went to look at it and stayed there and reported back that it was looking good. Then myself, Murph and Crump drove to see it a couple weeks ago and talk to the owner. Today we finally got the contract and Murph will post all the hotel details in the Crew Rally section tomorrow afternoon/evening.
We hope all of you are happy with the new location. We will discuss it all together in November once we see how it works out and whether we stay there in future years or look for another hotel. We think it's going to work out just fine. It has been hours of work for us, meeting up, conference calls and lots of emails back and forth. It will be a little different but change is good
Those of you who are new to the forum the Crew rally is great fun. Besides meeting each other and hanging out we will be going on some great rides. We hope those of you that have been to previous rallies will come and enjoy the new location. The dates are November 11th to 13th, some will arrive on the 9th or 10th. Almost everybody leaves on the Sunday. I believe it's Veterans Day weekend.
Look for all the details in the Florida Crew Rally section tomorrow.
