Default Road Trip!! need the crews help

Hey Guys I’ve done a couple searches and found a lot info on where to go and where to stop but not a lot info on routes.I was directed to this section for some help from the "Crew"
we are heading to Florida in March, we had a good friend of ours take our bikes down to his place in Orlando so we will be starting form there. The group is fine with 200 – 700 mile days so we are open to just about anything, but we do prefer the less traveled route with scenic **** to see along the way.

The plan so far is to fly into Orlando on the wen before Bike week then on Thursday we are running over to cedar key for the night then back to Orlando\castleberry to meet up with rest of the group thats driving down. I could use some help finding our way to Cedar key and back? I see the Mt dora area looks nice with “some” great twisty roads maybe hit Homosassa and check out the monkeys? any route help here will be appreciated.

heading down to the Keys on Saturday on our way down the plan is to stay at the Casino On Krome ave just outside Miami. I'm not sure what route to take down there? 192 to 441 to 98 around Okeechobee then 27 to krome ave? staying at the casino so we can run into Miami Saturday night and check out south beach\Miami beach area and have dinner it also looks like there a HD t-shirt shop down at bayside market place? How Saturday traffic in Miami?. We are staying Monday and Tuesday in Key west.
Leaving on Wen to head to Daytona, I’m not sure if we should just take the Ronald Reagan turnpike to 75 to chesters or skip Chester’s and take old cutler rd(read on here that some you guys like this rd) and make our way though Miami to A1A by ft Lauderdale beach? I been to Miami one time and the traffic was…well… ****ing bad! We like to ride the water the most we can but hate to be stuck in traffic all day either.
What the story on day rides out of Daytona beach? We will be there Thut fri sat thinking about a ride to Yulee Fl to Renee’s for a drink then back to Orlando to fly out on Monday…

First time visitors to Bike week also…

Thanks for any help you can give out we are really looking forward to Florida in March..

Dude,
Your trip. It sounds... EXHAUSTING!
I got dizzy just reading your post.
But hey, have no fear. We're here to help.
It actually sounded pretty good till you got to the part about taking A1A through Ft Lauderdale to Miami. If you're gonna dip your wheels into Dade County at all, stay West, my friend. I mean Waaaay West. Staying at the Casino on Krome would be a good move, if you're gonna ride Krome down towards the Keys. But South Beach? FAHGETABOUTIT. Riding along the beach is nice... In DAYTONA! In Miami or Ft Lauderdale, all you will do is cook your motor. Here is one of my videos, it's three minutes of A1A in Ft Lauderdale. The traffic sucks, even though on that day, THERE WAS NOBODY THERE! On a good day, there are many more people on the boardwalk, and on the sand. You can walk faster than the traffic on A1A.

If you come back thru Homosassa forget about the monkeys and go to the "Freezer" for the best steamed shrimp around, you'll want the 2lb order. It's a cash only place.....

For the most part, it can be done that way. There are some tweaks that could be made, to make your ride a little more enjoyable, but hey, it's YOUR ride. Some people's idea of a vacation is different than others. Just yesterday, I was driving my mass transit bus in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic. And all around me are cars from New York, Michigan, Canada, etc. And I'm thinking, did they go out driving in rush hour, just to see what it's like to live here? Geeeez... Best Vacation ever!
Sorry for the rant. But the point that I'm trying to make, is that the "time of day" that you come across certain places can be a total buzzkill. One such place would be the westbound 595 part, from Ft Lauderdale out towards Chester's (which BTW is now "Alligator Alley HD") That road can be a nightmare at almost any time of day. And people down here do NOT care about motorcycles, Florida leads the nation in motorcycle deaths.

Oh I get what your saying (thats why I'm looking for Locals take) I drive for a living also(well did). the reason I was putting down days and time frame was so you get a good idea that I did plan the days around the busy time in the best places(hence pulling into Key west on Sunday) and then going though Miami on a Wednesday heading to Daytona, the night we stay at the casino and head into south beach\Miami is on a Saturday night..

looks like some good riding around leesburg\Mt Dora?

I agree with Steevo, there's nothing to see in Miami except traffic. Well ok there are some pretty parts to it but the traffic .... and the heat.

Do not leave for the Keys or from the Keys late in the day. I'd head there and back no later than 9am for your best chance of a good run in each direction. You could find your way to Peterson's but if you're going all the way to Key West there is a HD boutique store on Duval St for a T shirt.
Chesters is now Alligator Alley, you could stop there for a T shirt, you will also pass Space Coast HD on the way up to Daytona. Anyway you won't skip Rossmeyers in Daytona if you want to see one of the largest dealerships.

For Daytona I would take the Turnpike from Floral City out of the Keys and head to either Indiantown Road or Ft Pierce then cross over to I-95. It's a fast road once you are out of Palm Beach itself. Go straight to Daytona on 95. US1 is nice in parts but it's a much longer route and once you go US1 you are pretty much committed to staying on it because it's a long way back to 95. Your choice I have done both routes. 3 hours or 6 hours you decide. In Daytona the riding is meh, obviously find The Loop for a pretty road through swamp but it's short. There are some back roads to Palatka and US1 is nice going north towards Jax.

I figured staying at the casino and riding into Miami on Saturday night should elevate the weekday congestion?

no favorite routes from Orlando area over to cedar key?

I've ridden into Miami twice and never again. The parking sucks, the traffic is hell, and the drivers don't see you. I'm 50 miles north and avoid it like the plague.

The whole area is busy until the end of April. Take an Uber but if you're staying at the Miccosukee reservation you are a long way from Miami on pitch dark roads. I would not ride on Krome at night or 27. You could take 41 into Miami but it's a long way. Stay at the casino and hang out there.

Are you planning to leave Key West straight for Daytona? If you are figure on about 9/10 hours. It's about 4 hours from KW to Miami area then another 4 and a half to Daytona. That's without traffic and minimum stops. Be careful, miles and hours do not equate in Florida. You should get good time on I-95 but coming up from KW is a crapshoot. Leave KW early but avoid Miami Ft Laud and West Palm areas from 7 to 9.30am. I live south of Palm Beach and usually make Daytona in 3 and a half hours but I'm not sightseeing and know where I am. You're good to ride up to about 80mph, cops are not hot on bikes on the interstate (obviously don't pass a cop who's riding or driving at 72mph!), not so on the Keys, stay within 5mph of the speed limit. As you approach Daytona you'll be slowing down and will likely get a bit lost trying to figure out how to get to your hotel.
