Well,
my motor sounds like it's chewing on rocks. I have no desire or time to attempt to open it myself and go exploring.
I just got it back from a local shop where they replaced my inner primary bearing and compensator. The clunking noise is gone, but now I hear lots going on in the bottom of the engine.
Just for giggles, I called Harley in sunrise. I know I know, stupid move.
I asked if I needed crank bearings what is their labor rate.
I never should have bothered. about 2000-2500 for labor. Said it was about a 20-25 hour job. WTF ?
Anyway, I need to find someone who knows what they are doing that isn't going to try to pay off his house with this job.
Any ideas or experiences ?
Dave

V Twin City in Pompano (Andrews/McNab) has a service tech called Gabe, great reputation ex PB HD, I think their rates are about $70 an hour.
Steel Knuckle Custom is in Boynton, their service tech Jerry is also highly recommended, rates about $80 an hour. Both guys know their stuff, both will pick up your bike if you don't want to ride there.

Crank Bearings is a pretty big job and the 20 hours does not sound to far off to me. You have to take the motor down as far as it will go. Mine cost $1200 to get the crank trued, pinned, welded and balanced, new push rods and bearings and I took it out and apart myself. That was + 170 shipping so you could call it $1400.

Cool. Thanks.
Second time I've heard about Candies Cycles as well. SoFla was it from you both times?
Throttlejockey if you'd be so kind to post up with who you choose and how they do, that'd be very helpful to me and others. I don't need anything I can't do myself at the moment but that could change.
Hope to run into you guys at Cafe 27 one day.
