I actually did price new tires and brakes on the bike yesterday, 2/32 of tread left and grinding rear brakes. Have also been eyeing Motorcycle Metal's new 49mm front forks and triple tree setup.....awesome upgrade to the pre 2014 touring bikes. Especially after experiencing front end wobble on a high speed sweeper...twice. Also been looking to upgrade the rear suspension....$$$.
So after giving it some deep thought, and hearing SoFla and the Blaster Man raving about their Rushmore bikes, I went ahead and traded my '12 SG for a '14 Street Glide Special in Mysterious Red Sunglo. Only have 54 miles on it right now, 7 miles on the odometer and the rest evading the rain getting it back up north.
Biggest noticeable difference is the front end and rear suspension. The sound system isn't too shabby either. This bike really tracks well, feels really stable. Only negative is having to start all over with the mods....and break-in. The first 500 miles is a pain to go through. My riding style tends to be a bit aggressive and I have to hold back through the first few hundred miles. I know....whaaa.
My only regret is losing much of the work I put into the '12. I told them that I intended on keeping all of my mods and would change it back to stock. But they offered me top trade in to leave most of them on the bike. That surprised me!
I lost the Biketronics amp and speakers, the HD techs were rocking out with it back in the shop, S&S headers, RS intake, TL LED headlight, 4 point system and several chrome goodies. I took the Custom Dynamics LED signals and brake modulator, backrest, highway pegs, passenger floorboards and Rinehart slip ons. They installed a new 4 point system, grips and installed my highway pegs, passenger floorboards and slip ons. They also threw in the maintenance up through 10,000 miles and knocked off 1k from MSRP to sweeten the deal......Sold.
Great timing to pick up a '14 for a deal! Besides, the only difference that will be for '15 is paint. Now let the mods begin....again!
