I don't like a lot, didn't start using it till a couple or three years ago. One of the wimen wanted me to try it, probably wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there, but it doesn't bother me. I draw the line at the Z veggie, though. Didn't grow okra this year, but when I do, some of that goes in, too. Mebbe I should call it vegetable stew with chili flavor...
If you didn't see my last post on that ebay trans case, it's not like mine, whole different front mount to the motor, and mine has a bigger starter hole, and doesn't have the guide pins the ebay one does.
My vin number shows 1989, regular introduction, but the trans looks like this '90 and up FXR transmission:
I'm wondering if the transmission got changed when the S&S engine was put in - the previous owner did say the transmission was new then, too, but I figured that was just a gearset; now I wonder if they put a newer model in. The newer model would be a good thing, wouldn't it? As long as it matches up to the inner primary and doesn't break that lower forward lug off when it's tightened down...

I think that one on ebay for 140 was either mis-identified or for a different model. The part numbers for an '89 and a '92 are the same for an FLTCU.
I've been looking at ebay, and for the prices I'm seeing for used ones, I'd just get a new one. Granite States lists it for $398. I'd have to get some new bearings for a new case, but don't think I'd want to use the ones in a used case anyway.
That lug that broke off actually looks like it's more for holding the primary cases together for an oil seal than anything structural; it's too thin to take much pressure. That whole protrusion doesn't look it's any more than a guard for the pullye. I suspect I could do without it and not have a problem; looks like it ran that way for a long time from the wear and crud in the broken area. If I don't find any more problems when I pull the trans apart, I may just use it as is. Till I get an unexpected financial windfall and can afford a Baker...
It's the hole just below the pulley in this picture.
I should have done more research before I even mentioned it, may be a non issue.
