Mine is from putting two of my old call signs together. "icewater" was given to me by a superior who claimed I either had
ice water running in my veins or didn't have any f@#&ing sense.
I think the jury is still out.

Mine is what I did for a living when I was Enlisted......we were all so proud of that name it even became a verb, eg. - "We DIRSUPED that place!" Which would mean, if, for example it were a party, we drank all their booze, stole their women (or tried), and thrashed the house. Kinda like when we shaved this dude's dog......"We DIRSUPED Frank's dog. His wife was pissed when she got home." The bros and I still use it.....

Gunkholing is a nautical reference to the many past summers I've spent dropping the hook on my old wooden Chris into numerous out of the way coves and anchorages on the Washington & British Columbia coastlines.
