Very personal question.
My wife likes her Lady Smith 9mm semi auto. She carries two clips for a total of 16 rounds.
I like my old school 5 round .38 snubnose revolver. Its old tech, and I have several semi autos to choose from, but I just like the revolver. I slip a pair of speed strips in my pocket for a total of 15 rounds.
Besides, the FBI says that in 98 % of confrontations 3 rounds or less were used.
It all depends on what you are the most comfortable with.
True, and at 10' or less.
I carry a Kel-Tec PF-9 IWB a lot. It's never failed to fire. Kel-Tec says "occasional" +p OK, so I have some dandy Hornady XTP 124gr ammo. I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of it.
It's such a personal thing though - so many good choices.

A friend of mine has two sweet little hand guns, the 1st, not my first choice though, a ruger lcp, 380 auto. the second, the one I would have in a heart beat a Ruger lcr, 38 spl, that is the slickest revolver I have ever handled for conceled carry.

I highly recomend against 9mm. Over penetration. You don't want to hit whatever is behind your target. Fired a 45ACP 230gr. FMJ at an 8x8 post, penetrated about 3". 9mm 125gr. FMJ at same, the tip of the bullets were sticking out the back. 30/30 blew the back of the post out.
That 30/30 is a blast, (no pun intended), to shoot!
Have not priced a Walther recently. I think one can be had for between $350 and $500 but don't quote me on that. I need to go look again. The 380 ACP, AKA 9mm short, AKA 9mm Corto, AKA 9mm kurtz, 100gr. Jacketed HP is IMO, sufficient for a close quarter self defence weapon. But that's just me. You are liable for whatever you shoot so make sure you only hit your intended target.
Always load your carry piece with Hollow point ammo. It is designed to expand and not over penetrate. Its only purpose is to make as big a hole and do as much damage as possible.
Many brands sell HP ammo.
38 S&W 442 no internal lock front pocket or jacket pocket with a soft pocket holster or Colt 45 New Agent with Milt Sparks VM2 IWB holster. Had a Keltec 380 and got rid of it, spring came out the front around the guide rod. They fixed it and I got rid of it right away. If a semi-auto can not handle 300 rounds dump it. My Colt is in for a recall on two parts but it has 500 flawless rounds through it.
Hey, I'm thinking of getting a small pistol for concealed carry. Any suggestions?
Small snub-nosed revolvers carry light and always go "bang" with little room for malfunctions.
My "small" carry pistol is a S&W model 60. This gun is chambered in 38 Special, packs 5 shots, and is in sweat proof stainless. It will shoot +P ammo and when I have it in my waistband I forget it is there. This is unlike when I pack my full sized Colt 1911 Government Model... I know the 1911 is there as it tugs on my belt, yet 45 ACP rounds hit with authority.
I also carry a Glock 23 for those "in between" days.
Regardless what you choose make sure it is reliable and you pratice enough to shoot it accurately. The practice will also give you the muscle memory to work the gun even under a stressful situation.
Yes, Edmo. I am a big revolver fan also. The only thing about them is that they are "fat". The automatic pistol is slimmer and therefore there is less chance it will snag on anything durring presentation. That split second could cost you your life.
IMO, a full size 1911 is just too heavy and you may leave it at home because of this. Even the smaller 45's are fairly hefty. I like them a lot but for everyday carry something lighter suits me better. The Walther is almost too big and heavy. Almost.
