Default Florida sticks it to bikers again

Beginning July 1 the Florida DMV will require that anyone purchasing, or titleinga motorcycle will be required to have an M class on their D.L.. It will also be required that anyone who applies for an M class on their D.L. will be requred to complete a 24 hour motorcycle safety course. The cost of these courses run about $200 and up. The Florida DMV will no longer be a testing facility, and newapplicants must present a certificate of completion of the course.

This also means that anyone who purchases a bike as a gift, or co-signs a mororcycle loan will also be required to complete this course, and have the M class on their license.

Okay, so maybe the 24 hour course aint such a badrequirement for a newbie rider, but the rest is a crock of sh*t.

yep, that's why I finally got my endorsement a few months ago....Been riding off and on for quite a while without one and figured I better get it before the rush. You can bet the MSF courses and harley riders edge courseare gonna get more expensive.

I think overall it's a great idea. There are way to many teenagers, without proper training, out there on crotch rockets, some of which I'm sure were purchased by clueless parents.

And I Live In Florida.

I grew up in Florida, took the 3 day course and think its a great idea. I have even told my 12yr old that he will go through it before being able to drive a car.. I knew some guys down there that would do the adv. rider course every year just for practice..

I think it's a pretty good idea myself, I've always thought that you shouldn't be able to buy a motorcycle if you don't have a motorcycle endorsement.

Big brother lookin out for ya! The overwelming majority of motorcycle deaths are not caused by the rider. There should be a motorcycle awareness course for cages!!!

Beg to differ with you. Over half the motorcycle fatalaties are single vehicle accidents and half of all motorcycle fatalaties the rider has been drinking or is legally drunk. All you have to do is go to the Harley videos or YouTube and type in motorcycle crash and you will some mighty stupid fatal stunts.

As I stated in my post, not a bad idea for a newbie rider. But I dont agree that forcing a loanco-signer, or a co-owner who doesnot even ride,to complete a $200safety course and get an Mclassificationis reasonable.

Better yet, take it one step further and require allfirst time applicants for a D.L. to complete a40 hour safe drivers course.
This will make people learn to drive, rather than justlearning to pass a test.
