Loose metal sound when light throttle
#14
Its the shields. I have the same sound. its at a certain rpm. Crack the throttle hard past that rpm and u wont hear it. Can drive me nuts sometimes too. I loosen the shields clamps and re-tighten and the sound goes away for awhile for me. I dont think its pinging. 9 outta 10 times pinging happens under a heavy load

Thanks for the replies. I live in middle tn and the temp is in the 80's. This is a new sound. It's really amplified in 4th and 5th gear. Full throttle doesn't seem to do it. Maybe 1/4 throttle, enough to make the bike pull. I have the cheap cfr knock offs and sac. No download or tuner . I thought pinging would be from to much fuel and not enough air or am I backwards?

Lean condition will ping.
But I don't think that is your problem.

If it is your clamps or shields they will vibrate like hell in neutral. So ramp up your rpm and see if it occurs, if not, I would be skeptical. Take it to the Harley dealer and let a good tech ride it..assess the noise. My money would be on Tucci's assessment..
