Has anyone figured how to direct link aftermarket XM radios to the '14+ touring bikes with no "aux in" plug?

It also may have a lot to do with the direction your riding. Towards the South usually provides better reception.

Overpriced considering the limitations with signal, sound quality, and volume.

I don't have one on my bike, but the one in my semi has a built-in fm transmitter. All I do is tune it to an unused fm station or one that's low powered & select the same frequency on the Xm unit & it'll play just fine.

simple mod moving the ant on top of vent plate make a huge difference. I would have sold mine if that didn't work as well as it did. Mike

I have my antenna mounted on a metal plate attached to the top shelf of the inner fairing. I run my XM through my Zumo 550 GPS. Had to add a small 45 watt amp on top of my radio to get good volume. Now everything is great. Well, except for the yearly subscription. Have to constantly threaten to cancel, to get good deals. OH well, life is good.

Ive had my antenna stuck to the top of my radio housing under the fairing. Almost 8 years now with no issues, other than riding thru forests or mountain cliffs that block my satellite angle to the south

That's the only way I've seen too. My Onyx does the same thing, just sounds better with the aux in or fm modulator.

XM Radios-antenna.jpg

This is how I handled the reception problem on my '14 Limited. I relocated the antenna to the top of the inner fairing, just inside the windshield. It made a very noticeable improvement in reception.

Unfortunately the XM module in the 14 Ultras are complete crap and will drop signal constantly in any areas with trees, hills, power lines, etc.... The problem isn't exactly the antenna but the buffer built into the infotainment system. It doesn't have one or more correctly it has a 2-3 second buffer only. For it to be an effective buffer you need at least 15-30 seconds, which is what you get in your vehicle which is why you have less drops. I'll bet that no matter where you put your antenna you'll be frustrated with your coverage.

To counter I cancelled my XM subscription on the bike and just use their online feature. Connect your phone through bluetooth the the infotainment center and stream your XM music from the internet connection. Much more stable.
