Default Cam chest noise again

Just did a 107" kit with a Woods 555 cam, Woods lifters and adj pushrods from FM on the 07 Ultra. Bike goes great!

Only problem is the noisy cam chest. It sounds like a loose chain with a slight knock. Adjusted the pushrods a number of times, even going down .145 into the Woods lifters and still there. Top end sound good. Working with a stethoscope it is hard to locate on the cam chest. Strangely putting the stethoscope on the exhaust, I hear the noise the most. Checked for loose exhaust, rubs, hose clamps.......... nothing.

I do think it is in the cam chest and might go back in. When in there last time I put in the new SE cam plate with pump (aligned the pump according to the manual. Also did new cam tensioners for good measure.

Is it possible that the outer cam chain and gears could be worn, or the chain has too much slack? I ask as the outer cam chain has slack on the opposite side of the tensioner, even after running it for 400 miles (been in there twice).

Yes the inner cam bearings were replaced.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Legit question here. My "knock" was an exhaust leak and reversion noise I wasn't expecting.

Excellent comments on the exhaust gaskets. Normally I use the Harley gaskets, but this time the pipes went in I used the gaskets that came with the S&S pipes that I had lying around for a while. I normally use the Harley stock gaskets.

Any thoughts as to how I can check further on th exhaust leak?

Trying to remember if it sounded rotational or not........

Should have used the Harley stock gaskets.....I believe a lighter or cigarette / cigar smoke works. Blow the smoke by the gaskets, if there's a leak you'll see the smoke / flame get disrupted.

Also did you add or change to a different air cleaner with this new build?

Borrowed a buddy's baby oil smoke making tool. No leaks detected in the exhaust.

Got a new set of HD exhaust gaskets today for the upcoming tear down.

Same filter as before.

I am beyond that. I am a little over .145 into the lifters which is around 28 flats (Thank you Hillsidecycle). That did well for the top end, but now I am chasing sounds actually inside the cam chest.

Same air filter but is it a Roland Sands or some other venturi type ? Once I went to an open style I had the "knock " sound from intake area. I have woulds 777 cams and the overlap creates that effect . Goes away with some Rpm?

Try running without the A/C cover and see if the noise gets much louder. If so, probably just reversion.
