I have the 944's on my FLHX, but I am not sure if they are the heavy duty ones or not? I also have their monotubes for up front: I like them a lot. It was a big change over stock. Many say the Ohlins are better.

Almost everyone who has heavy duty gets them changed to the lighter spring. From what I gather the heavy duty is super firm. I have not run either but would not get heavy duty if it were me.

Originally there was not an option on spring rate with these shocks. My guess is the lighter spring was introduced after numerous complaints of excessive stiffness. No pun intended.

I have to return these then buy lighter ones at a higher price .only weigh about 180 and two up well... it depends on when I as the wife as to what total weight is. according to progressive if you don't have enough weight on the shocks they cause the rear to bounce on turns

Something to consider when looking at shocks is whether you ride mostly solo, or like to take a passenger regularly. Having studied shocks threads on HDF for a long time (there are many hundreds of them!) few members tell us if they ride 2-up. Many shocks will give an improved ride for solo use, over stock ones, but when riding 2-up and loaded for that grand tour, the shocks that ride well and never bottom out are few.

I have the heavy duty, wife and I together are probably 375#'s plus the gear on the bike. I emailed customer service at Progressive before I ordered, they were very helpful and up front about which shocks I needed for the load. I think they are better than stock air shocks, plus I have a 1" drop which looks good. Also did the front with Progressives at the same time.

Call Progressive, they will set you up.

Speak with Howard or Ohlins before you make the purchase.
They will give you a better shock for the same money.
