Default Changing 2014 brake lever

I recently moved and my service manual is in storage. I changed one on my 09 a few years back and remember something about shimming the brake light switch so it doesn't get damaged. Anyone have a pic or advice ?

No pic, but you would want to put a piece of card board or something like a 1/4' thick in between the lever and the housing.
The lever being pulled just a little bit, prevents it from messing up the brake light switch underneath, while pulling out the lever.
BTW, you do need to split the housing to get the lever out.

I hope that helps.
Thank you.

Just did mine. Remove pin. Loosen the switch housing cover and the two bolts holding the master on. Its locked in there, once you do that it comes right out

No need for cardboard on the 14s

I just pull the brake lever in and stick a piece of cardboard in between the lever and the switch so that the lever does not make contact with the brake light switch. My experience is removing the switch housing before you do this has a tendency to break the switch. It takes about 3 seconds. Do it first before you remove anything.

You don't need a shim on a 2013 either.
