reading your procedure, you do not mention first backing off the cable to get the huge amount of slack needed to get a good adj down at the clutch.

I think it calls for backing it out 1 1/2 turns. I could be mistaken though.

Longest opening sentence in post history.
Did you slacken the cable as required?

Half round usually works for me.
I leave maybe a nickel thickness space or less slack at the clutch lever, my preference.
I don't think most of us ever get rid of the first shift clunk.
Another part of the Harley Sound, I guess.

Mine seems to work best holding the clutch for 20-30 seconds.

Also changed gear oil. Went with a synthetic 75w90 gear oil.

Question. Bike shifts fine, other than the harley clunk into first. Have no problem finding neutral. But before, when i started the bike, if i pulled the clutch in for 10 seconds or so and shift into first it would be shift quiet. Now, after doing all this, it wont shift quiet. Pulling in the clutch for a few seconds it still clunks into first grear. Any ideas on why?thx
Is that roughly what you were trying to say?

Two things jump out at me.

One is the oil change. You may be having an issue with too much oil in the case, or the wrong type of oil. Either way, the oil drag holding tension in the clutch, causing the clunk.

The second is the adjustment itself. You may have inadvertently maladjusted the clutch so that it now doesn't separate the clutch discs enough.

Yep it's a Harley. Trying to cure first gear clunk is a fools mission.
