Stage 1 on My 2005 Road King Classic
So I have a 2005 Road King Classic, fuel injected. I bought the bike used and apparently it has a Stage 1 on it but the previous owner never got the download from Harley. While browsing eBay for various things for the bike i found this, http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-Harl...fb9ac5&vxp=mtr
Can anyone tell me what exactly this is and how I would install it? Thanks!

...... i too, got a new/vintage download cartridge off ebay.
..... still had to have the dealer install the 'flash' as it required a special input connector that most have stopped using due to the prevalence of SERTs & other newer tuners that allow for real tuning.
........ and like Dawg said, do you know for sure that the original owner didn't have it 'flashed' if/when a dealer installed the AC ?
..... and that IS a vRod cartridge.... would totally not work on your 88

A Stage 1 consists of 3 parts:
Air Cleaner
Exhaust
Tune.
If one of those 3 parts is missing, it's not a Stage 1, but rather someone swapping parts that ought not be swapping parts.
The tune is the MOST important part, and should be the FIRST change, if not all at the same time.
The reason a lot of guys don't do the tune is you can't "see" it or "hear" it.
A "dealer download" is the absolute minimum, and IMHO, a waste of money.
I've tuned my Harleys over the years almost every way imaginable, from carbs and jets to the dealer download to the FP piggyback unit to flash tuners. I'm cheap and hard headed... but I will never use anything but a flash tuner again, or at least until the ECM technology and tune technology comes up with something better.
It's your nickel, spend it how you choose.
Will the engine explode because a flash tuner isn't used? No. But on MY bike, I want it to run correctly.
Guys that do that kind of stuff is why I never buy used bikes as my primary ride...
