ATF was also suggested by a trusted builder using the same process you describe. I might just do that this evening instead of the water. thanks for bringing it back to my attention mrfikser.

How'd you get those pistons so clean, was it the ATF trick? Looks good.

if you have the heads off Delta, it's best to spray the pistons down liberally with WD-40 and let it sit for about 20 minutes or so then come back with a razor blade and it scrapes right off. Put lots of rags around your cylinders cause that crap goes everywhere when you bring the pistons to TDC. Also make sure when you're bringing your pistons up that you hold the cylinder down so as not to disturb the base gasket.

and FYI.. looks like rain is going to damper my ride down to Corpus tomorrow so tonight I think I'll snap a few photos with the borescope camera of the pistons in my bike, do the ATF trick, then tomorrow I'll snap pictures of the results and post them.

If that don't work then I'll try the seafoam/distilled water trick and report back

I also went a slightly different approach after trying the DK breather bolts (I was breathing too much exhaust). DK sells some nice looking 90 degree bolts that I'll probably get and will run the hose below the air cleaner and will hardly be visible except for the one hose going behind the rear head and down exiting under the bike.




One brass elbow and a tee and a little bit of hose with the original stock breather bolt.





Doesn't look too bad but obviously a non-stock look.

I vented mine down to the ground. Off to the side of the rear wheel and in front of it. No problems for 3500 miles. No oil on the wheel NO issues!

kinda hard to see but I have a general idea that my piston tops after about 6500 miles since the build are not in bad shape at all. Here's a short video of the front and rear. I'm not professional editor so what you see is raw footage unedited. The first piston is the rear.

By the way, they don't look bad because about 600 or so miles after the build, I vented my breathers out. My bike is running fine.. this is more of an experiment than anything else.

2nd video to come tomorrow after is sets overnight.. Off to spray in some ATF.

ok here's my take on this.
first off, I sprayed into the TB in a heavy stream a full 8oz bottle of ATF in a rapid fashion. Never could get the bike to stall at 2500rpms, just smoke like a ****.

So I finally said the hell with out, sprayed a bunch in there and killed the bike. Pulled plugs and sprayed about 1oz in each of the cylinders and let it set over night

here's the video after blowing out the remainder of the atf, and before starting the bike to let it idle to operating temp.

as you can see not much of a difference but you can definitely see where the front edge of the front piston was cleaned off pretty well.

Maybe in a couple of weeks I'll try the seafoam/distilled water method to see what it does.. I'm going ride now..
