How do i tell what motor configuration came "stock" in my bike? I have a 2000 road king I just bought and its got A screaming eagle 96" motor, my question is did the bike come with this or did it start life as a 88".

The VIN should have character for engine type.

do you happen to know what characters go with what engine? the VIN decoder just states that its a twin cyl, not actual displacement. Thanks for all the help!

If it's not a CVO (don't think there was a 2000 Screamin Eagle Road King) then it was an 88 when it left the factory new.
The hop up of the day was to go big bore making it a 95 cubic inch.
The 96 has a different stroke. It come out in 2007.
What makes you think it's a Screamin Eagle 96 inch?

The 2000 Road King came standard with the 88 CI 1450 CC Twin Cam, and five speed transmission. Stock, I believe it put out something like 60HP, 60 torque?

The 96" Twin Cams didn't come out until '07 if I remember correctly.

All the big boar kits I see just come with the cylinders and pistons, this bike also has SE heads. I'm new to twin cam motors so just trying to learn, plan on doing performance upgrades this winter.

sounds like they took a complete motor and slapped it in your existing frame. That should be easy nuff to determine. Look at the VIN, look at the S# on the left side of the case at the cylinder bases. That S# should match part of the VIN.

could be that they did the 95" upgrade and also the SE heads, not uncommon at all and good for you. most likely they did some kind of cam change as well. be happy
