I'm a fan of the Bell pit boss. Smaller, visor, drop down shield, cold weather ear curtain and has the adjustable head clamp which really customizes the fit. My favorite half helmet so far. Plus about $120 on eBay.

 

THIS... Anything over 10 years and the materials that make up your helmet have certainly started to degrade. Look at it positively. As said before, it was probably time to get a new one. Still sucks, I'm sure.

 

That's what MSF instructors told us

 

same helmet.....12 to 15 years. New helmet $330. Devide the 330 by 15......that is how much your helmet is per year. Leave a helmet on the ground? (Not like you wore it there and left it?) $330 sounds like a good lesson.

Thanks guys, for the suggestions. I'm kinda mad at myself for just forgetting it there. I did like the Seer, but if I can find a similar helmet for a bit cheaper, I'd consider it. At least I know what size I wore in that style, shopping for a helmet online is just a crap shoot. Keep the suggestions coming.
I was actually thinking about replacing the helmet when I found a replacement, but now I HAVE to. Guess it just burns me that I got myself into this, and now I have to pay to get myself out. Kinda eating into my bike customization fund, but hey, lesson learned. Oh, and by the way, the SIL looks like he's gonna be a good riding buddy in a bit. And the son is not far from it either. He's getting his bike fund ready for the buy next year. I am blessed to have em both. If losing the helmet is the only regret I have with us riding, I guess I'm blessed. Thanks again, guys.

 

Until August 4th, I wore a Z1R half shell. It fit great, was very comfortable, and was really quite inexpensive.
August 4th I crashed. Destroyed my '07 Ultra, and beat the heck out of my helmet, but I'm still here to talk about it...

I will be in the market for a new FF helmet next year...apparently, a 7 year old helmet is past it's expiration date.

 

sounds like a SL1602 from what you've described. Sweet helmet.
Christmas is coming up, I'd be dropping hints about replacing that with another Seer helmet a little early.
like the ads say. the quality of shoei and arai but half the price and weight.

 

I just got a zox nano, light, dot, no mushroom head, I'm pleased with it.
