best SOUNDING cams

Then, there's the issue of what's more important...image...or function? If ya wanna pose, absolutely go for that...if you wanna use your bike for what it's intended for, get a cam that gives you good torque in the low end...after all, that's where touring bikes live...

Just find the most overlap ya can. Over 40 degrees will get ya in the range. Anderws 60, woods 777. S&S 570 are good starting points. Of course without compression, headwork and all the goodies, a big cam will run like crap. The idle oil pressure thing is hogwash. Twincams have much better oiling than shovels. They upped the idle to smooth out the lighter flywheels for the geezers/uppies.

No matter what you do, you are not gonna get that old tater tater tater sound out of a bike with fuel injection, just aint gonna happen dude. By the looks of your sig, you have a new fuel injected bike. Good luck with your search, lemme know if you find that tater, tater, tater sound BC I want that for my new bike.

Some of the new tuners enable lowering your idle rpm. The shovels idled around 700 rpm, the twin cams at 1000. My understanding is that the TC flywheels are lighter and don't have the inertia of shovel flywheels, and the moco set the idle speed up to compensate. Realistically, how much time do you spend at 4500 rpm or better? Get a grunt cam that comes on low and pulls where you need it.
