Default Resetting odometer on used speedometer?

The dial on my speedometer is starting to lift off its backing plate. Doesn't interfer with the speedometer function as yet, but will if it continues to lift.

I have seen some used speedometers on eBay.

My question: Is it possible to change the odometer on a used speedometer so the milage would match my current value??

Thanks

your best option ( if odometer is your priority), is to have the dealer send yours to HD.
They will sell you a new speedo with "restored" mileage to match yours.

***this will vary depending on model year

or you could send yours to one of the outfits which can open a speedo and change faceplates, lights etc and have them fix it

Or just buy a speedo for a good price and document the odometer inaccuracy for the next owner.

Speedo is married to the bike.

You are right.... and wrong.

The ecm does store miles, but it does not transmit the miles to the speedometer. The ecm miles can only be read by the digital technician.

Only the factory can set the miles on a NEW speedometer. They can't or won't reset a used speedometer.

If you buy a new speedo, they come with a sticker that you write the actual mileage on at the time you put in the new speedo, and you stick it on a safe but easily seen part of the bike.

I ordered a new speedo for my 2012 RK from my HD dealer. I told them my current odometer reading. When the new speedo arrived from the factory, it had the correct mileage preinstalled on the odometer. I took a picture of the old speedo's odometer and the new odometer to show they both read the same (just in case it comes up down the road).

Thanks to you all for the input.

Since I wouldn't be able to change the odometer reading, the used speedo may not be my best solution.

I found a video on U_Tube that shows a guys changing the face plate on a Harley speedometer. For the way he was talking, it's a pretty common thing to swap from MPH to KmPH.

If I screw that up, I can fall back to buyiong a new replacement from Harley

Thanks again
