Glad that you didn't have to redo it all. I'm diving into mine tonight and the rest of the weekend. I am going to kick off a 16" ape install on my 06 SG tonight.

I've got the same bars on my bike. And yes, the recessed area is to allow clearance for the master cylinder. Don't worry about the confusion. Anyone that does a lot of their own maintenance has had similar moments. I know I've had many.
