I'm sure it has to do with black being the "base" color and not extra.
Are you saying everyone who rides a black bike did it to save the $500 for a different color (or $1000 for a custom color)? On a $20,000 bike, that differential does seem like it would make that much difference.
I think alot of people think Harleys "should" be black or think it is more "badass" (or both). I think most ride black bikes because that's what they wanted, not to save a few bucks. For the same reason, those of us that ride un-black bikes do so by choice, not because that's all that was left in inventory.

I seriously do not think the majority riders of black bikes would not spend an extra $500 for a color they wanted and then put another $5k to $10K into addons.

I didn't say it was everyone, but I have heard from quite a few that they will not pay extra for a color option.
I rode a black FLHT for 9 seasons. In '99 black was the only color you could get the Standard in. Then I rode it and realized how much faster it was !!!
The only thing I'd change on my bike is the color. Too many black bikes out there but I'm seeing a TON of Amber Whiskey on the 2014+ bikes...not my cup of tea either. The nice thing is that it can be painted.

I agree ... That Amber/Whiskey is everywhere too ... and at a premium price!!
