hi beam garage door opener where's the how-to?
Anyone able to link me? I've been searching for 15 minutes and only seeing post about how happy they are with it. No links, no how-to's nothing.
I already have the front fairing tore apart might as well do this while I'm in there. Thanks all.

It's in the "Tips and Tricks to save $$$$$" thread, which is a "sticky" meaning it has a lot of interest. I was one of the first to post a how to do the HI Beam Garage Door Opener way back in 2011. Let me know if you can't find it, I will give you instructions. Use the search function once you find the thread.

It's there.
I suggest that riders look at that sticky and get through a couple of pages a day and you'll find some fantastic ideas and money savers...and about a thousand posts on the GDO
generally the switch on your GDO is wired to a relay which gets power from the high beam ( or horn or turn signal or...) when you use the high beam ( etc.) the relay closes the switch on the GDO and it sends out the signal to open/close.
this can be a $5 mod, hands stay on controls, no extra switches or holes drilled
there is no harm in the GDO sending out a signal if you are 1,10,100 or 1000 miles from home.
depending on your GDO it may be easy to wire to the 12 volt...or use a dropping resistor to replace 9 volt power.
Or just stay with the battery.
specifics in the sticky

Screw the hi beam idea and use this one. Its easy to do. The only differences that did was I drilled a hole in the left 'blank' accessory switch and mounted the momentary switch there. I also purchased heavy duty velcro from Radio Shack and mounted it inside my Batwing.
And yes the DIY thread is a monster with lots of great ideas. Page 70...
