Default Debunk the myth

Guys I am in the process of installing some apes, and after reading some threads I'm seeing a lot of guys claim that xx" apes feel taller on a bagger than on other model HD's. I had a Softail with 18's, and they fit me perfect (I'm 5'9ish), now I have a SG with some 16"s at which I am in the middle of installing.

I am worrying now that 16s will be too tall for me on the SG compared to the softail. Thoughts/opinions please? I might have to order shorter bars after all, I hope that's not the case though.

Each bar manufacturer is different. Some are true to spec others aren't. Mine are sold as 14's but actually measure just under 16"s. At 6'4" these are perfect for me. Hands are just barely under shoulder height. At your height, the 16's may be taller than you expected.

I'm just getting off of work and heading into the garage to continue the tear down. I should be able to mount them and test them this evening. I'll keep you all posted, I might be returning them for shorter bars, let's hope not.

I had 16's on my RK. I think you'll be ok since you had 18's on a softail.

Well got them mounted and they feel fine. Hard to truly tell since there's no seat and the bars aren't exactly angled right as of yet. I think we're good though!

I would think it would be the other way around. I have a very low Softail Standard and a stock height Street Glide. After I ride the Softail for a day then sit on the SG the feel is totally different. They say you sit "in" a Softail and "on" a Touring Bike. My 12" Burly Apes feel fine but if I had 12" apes on the Softail I think I'd be reaching up or them because my Softail seat height is only 19" off the ground.
