Default In the middle of my cam swap - Question

Folks,

For those of you that have done your cams (I have a 2012 FLHTK 103). I am right in the middle of mine. Have everything out including the inner bearings. On reassembly, have any of you ever ran into your sprocket alignment being in excess of .010 and having to get different washers to correct? I know we are supposed to check the alignment/clearance, just wondering if anyone's has actually been out of spec? I'm putting in the Woods TW-222s.

Thanks in advance....

.010" is the limit as per the manual. Probably where it was to begin with, or at least close to it.

I haven't put my cams in yet, so I don't know that I am out of spec or not. I was just wondering if anyone has actually run into it being out of spec?

Very common for it to be outside of .010. If for some reason putting same new cams it will usually be ok. Example if lifter damages cam with bad roller lifter and you put back stock or 255 it should be ok.

Mine was out, I had to go up 2 sizes to get it under .010. Just buy the washer kit from H-D, you probably will need it. Either way check it for sure.

when I went from stock to installing 255 cams. I was able to use washer that was on stock cams. when I went from my 255 cams to woods TW777's I had to go up another .010 on washer. It only takes a second to check.

Mine was well less than .010 but I was installing Andrews 57H grinds. No shims needed. They sell a shim pack at the dealerships if you end-up in need of some.

I have done many cam changes on TC's over the years and was never out of spec until I installed a set of TW-888's last year. I think I needed an extra .010. I would definitely measure it, like has been said, it only takes a few minutes and it is pretty straight forward.
